History of ABGS

At the time of the establishment of the All India Gujarati Samaj, the organization set certain objectives. To fulfill these goals, it enrolls leading Gujarati men and women living outside Gujarat as members of the organization and also includes active institutions as institutional members. It encourages them to carry out social, cultural, literary, and sports activities, among others. Additionally, it motivates the establishment and operation of guest houses, cultural centers, schools, and colleges in major cities across the country for the convenience of Gujaratis.

Members of the organization, both individual and institutional, spread across the country present details of their activities and any difficulties they face to the executive body and general assemblies. The organization assists in resolving these issues, and details of all such activities are also published in the organization’s official publication, Gurjar Bharati.

The president of the organization is elected every two years on a rotational basis from leaders of different regions of India. This ensures that the organization benefits from the service, skills, and experience of leaders from all regions and that each region receives representation. Similarly, members of the executive committee are selected from prominent and service-oriented Gujarati men and women from various regions. These individuals are respected personalities in their respective regions and actively participate in activities of Gujaratis across the country, always ready to assist in times of need.

Coordination

As per the provisions of the organization’s constitution, meetings of the management committee are held every three months in different regions. These meetings review completed work and prepare plans for upcoming activities. The details are then shared with the central committee to ensure smooth coordination among all regions.

Coordination with the Global Gujarati Samaj

The All India Gujarati Samaj is also connected with the Global Gujarati Samaj. Therefore, it actively contributes to worldwide initiatives undertaken by the Global Gujarati Samaj. Members of this organization are also included in the executive body of the Global Gujarati Samaj. By virtue of their position, the President of the All India Gujarati Samaj serves as the Patron Vice President of the Global Gujarati Samaj.

Current Revised Constitutional Structure of the Organization

After its establishment, based on present conditions and past experiences, amendments were made to the organization’s constitution at Dhanbad during the EGM and AGM held on 29-06-2014. As per the new constitution:

  1. Approval of Gold Membership (₹100,000)
  2. Creation of the Chairman position (from among Gold Members)
  3. Division of the organization into 17 states instead of zone-based structure, with provision for appointing State Unit Presidents
  4. Detailed provisions regarding the election of the President, including a rule that a person can serve as President for a maximum of two consecutive terms

In 2014, elections were conducted in Bhuj according to the new constitution.

Today, the organization’s official publication is issued under the name Gurjar Sarita. With the advent of the digital era, communication of information and news is now also carried out online and via WhatsApp.

The organization’s income primarily comes from new memberships. Currently, the organization has 8 honorary Gold Member couples.
