Swasthya Bharat Abhiyan

Swasthya Bharat Abhiyan Initiated by Government of India in 2016.

There are 4 Components of Swasthya Bharat Abhiyan

The 8 Dimensions of Wellness

1. Physical Wellness

This is the most visible dimension, but it goes far beyond just exercising. It means listening to your body, getting 7–8 hours of restorative sleep, eating nutrient-dense foods, and avoiding harmful substances. It also includes taking preventive actions, like getting routine health checkups before symptoms appear.

2. Emotional Wellness

This is your ability to navigate life’s ups and downs. It involves understanding, accepting, and managing your feelings, managing stress effectively, and practicing resilience. A person with high emotional wellness can bounce back from setbacks without letting chronic stress manifest as physical illness (like high blood pressure or ulcers).

3. Metabolic & Nutritional Wellness

This is the engine of the body. It means fueling yourself to maintain stable energy, optimal blood sugar, and low systemic inflammation. It aligns directly with the “Eat Right” philosophy—focusing on whole foods, controlling portions, and understanding that what you eat directly dictates how your cells age.

4. Mental & Intellectual Wellness

Keeping the mind sharp, curious, and engaged. It involves lifelong learning, critical thinking, exploring new ideas, and challenging your brain. Mental wellness acts as a shield against cognitive decline as we age.

5. Social & Community Wellness

Humans are hardwired for connection. This dimension is about building a supportive social network, nurturing meaningful relationships, and feeling a sense of belonging. Strong social ties are scientifically proven to lower cortisol (stress hormones) and increase lifespan.

6. Spiritual Wellness

This does not necessarily mean religion, though it can for many. It is about having a core set of values, morals, or beliefs that give your life meaning, purpose, and direction. It provides a psychological anchor during difficult times.

7. Environmental Wellness

A recognizing that our personal health is deeply connected to the health of our planet and immediate surroundings. It involves occupying clean, safe, and sustainable spaces—breathing clean air, having access to nature, and minimizing exposure to toxins and clutter.

8. Financial & Occupational Wellness

Finding personal satisfaction and enrichment through work, while balancing it with financial security. Financial stress is one of the leading triggers for physical ailments, making financial mindfulness a crucial part of overall well-being.

Healthcare Systems

Individuals can choose between conventional treatments The government supports an integrative healthcare policy, often housing these choices side-by-side in public hospitals.

Modern Medicine (Allopathy)

The primary evidence-based healthcare system in India.

Alternative Systems (Ministry of AYUSH)

  • Ayurveda: originated in Northern India and relies mostly on herbs and Sanskrit texts, It is focusing on balancing bodily humors (Doshas) via herbs, diet, and Panchakarma.
  • Homoeopathy: A system based on the principle of “like cures like” using highly diluted natural substances.
  • Naturopathy: A drugless, nature-based healing system utilizing elements like water, earth, and air to aid self-healing.
  • Siddha: An ancient holistic healing tradition prevalent in Southern India using herbs, minerals, and metals.

Sujok Therapy

operates on the principle that the hands and feet function as miniature maps, or “micro-systems,” mirroring the organs, limbs, and energetic pathways of the entire human body.

Because the hands and feet contain highly concentrated, reflexive correspondence points, practitioners believe that stimulating these specific zones can balance the body’s energy flow and promote natural healing.
